Formula Vee Round 2 - with Max Hart

We travelled to Mondello for Round 2 of the Finol Star of Tomorrow Championship and I was looking forward to hitting what is kind of my home track at this stage!

A great weekend racing (again), and why shouldn’t it have been anything other than great. After a productive days testing, the honorable Sir Paul Heavey had my machine sweetly by the end of Friday and I was gunning for race day.

And what a day it turned out to be. The competition was fierce (which I am quickly realising the normal case to be in Formula Vee!) and racing was absolutely great fun.

After the first few laps of qually, we were off to a promising days’ racing. With the first-round win in the Finol Star of Tomorrow Championship already under my belt in Kirky, I had to keep the competition at bay, and throughout the day this was tested and tested, but I managed to extend my championship lead.

Qualifying didn’t go as planned, the conditions were extremely tricky as we had to deal with a wet but drying track. I was mindful not to risk spinning and damaging the car but this cautious approach meant I had lot track to make up when it came to the race.

I got a great start off the line and a tight battle developed over the opening laps. I fought hard all race long, we had some great battles and dicing even though a red flag halted our race, I gladly benefited from it. Thankfully there were no injuries to those involved in the red flag.

Red flag aside, it was a great finish to the end of the race and even better for me I secured another first in the Finol Star of Tomorrow Championship, adding maximum points to my championship tally.

Although it will be another new track to learn, I can’t wait for Bishopscourt in a couple of weeks time.
