2018 Finol Star of Tomorrow Championship announced
As we move into the second half of the 2017 Formula Vee season, Leastone Racing Cars and Finol Oils Ltd. are happy to announce that 2018 will see the continuation of the Finol Star of Tommorrow initiative. 2018 will be the 5th year of the Finol/Leastone partnership and the 6th year overall for initiative, which offers newcomers to Formula Vee the opportunity of a race weekend in the 160 BHP slicks and wings equipped Leastone 1000, at a UK Monoposto event. Last year saw Finol Star of Tomorrow Joe Power enjoy an all expenses paid test and race weekend for the Monoposto season closer at the iconic Brands Hatch. Throughout the years, the championship has seen winner’s race at Mondello Park, Kirkistown, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.
2017 will see the rookie champion travel to Anglesey in November, where he will enjoy a full days testing prior to contesting 2 Monoposto races over the course of the weekend. This double header will form part of the Monoposto Tiedman trophy, which is essentially a winter series for the class. As we enter the final 5 rounds of the championship, any one of 4 drivers can take the crown, with 16 points covering Luke O’Faolain, Brandon Polley, John Ross Delahunt and Tadgh Sharkey.

Heavey was referring to the relatively open entry requirements of the Finol Star of Tomorrow. The championship is essentially a rookie championship but it is open to licence holders of all ages, providing they have completed less than 5 race events (the minimum requirement to lift the novice plate from new drivers). The one exception to this rule is Ginetta Junior drivers (14-17 year olds), who are eligible for the championship regardless of how many races they have completed.
The 2017 Finol Star of Tomorrow continues this weekend (August 13th) at Mondello Park and concludes at the super fast Kirkistown circuit on October 7th. The championship winner will then join the Leastone team at the Anglesey circuit in Wales, on the 19th of November.
